The chief executive of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Group Plc, Mr Oscar Onyema, has been honoured for his positive impact on the West Africa capital market.
The capital market expert was recognised by the West African Securities Regulators Association (WASRA) at the West Africa Capital Market Conference held in Lagos on October 25 and 26, 2023.
Mr Onyema was the first Chairman of the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC) and has contributed to shaping the integration of capital markets in the region.
During his tenure as the pioneer leader of WACMIC, he led the design of the journey map for Phase 1 to 3 of capital markets regional integration.
It was his time the council secured a funding partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the project. The Phase 1 sponsorship access was implemented, and the first cross-border transaction happened during his chairmanship.
Between 2014 and 2018, the NGX Group chief was the President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA).
He was also instrumental in the demutualisation of the defunct Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) to the NGX, a profit entity limited by shareholding from its previous mutual, limited by guarantee structure.
