The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has attributed the latest scarcity in premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, in Lagos and Abuja to a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.
In a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr Olufemi Soneye, on Saturday, the NNPC assured that it was working tirelessly to address the issue.
In the past few days, queues have returned to petrol stations in Lagos and Abuja, causing a few oil marketers to sell the product above N700 per litre instead of the usual N620 per litre.
The situation has caused many motorists to abandon their vehicles, with few plying the roads.
“The NNPC wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.
“The company further states that it is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations,” Mr Soneye said in the statement.
