The ad-hoc investigative committee constituted by the House of Representatives to look into the importation of adulterated petroleum products into Nigeria and others is to be reconstituted.
A statement signed by the image-maker of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, Mr Akin Rotimi, on Monday confirmed this development.
Earlier, the green chamber of the parliament set up the ad-hoc Joint Downstream and Midstream Committee to investigate the non-availability of crude oil for domestic refineries and other critical energy security issues.
But in the disclosure released today, Mr Rotimi said this panel would be dissolved to allow the inclusion of lawmakers with expertise in the energy sector.
According to him, this is “to ensure the efficacy and independence of this investigation,” as “the new committee will consist of members selected for their expertise, competence, and integrity.”
He emphasised that the new team will have the same mandate as the previous panel, that is to probe “the importation of adulterated petroleum products, the non-availability of crude oil for domestic refineries, and other critical energy security issues.”
“The House remains committed to addressing these vital issues and ensuring thorough oversight. Further details on the new committee’s operations will be provided in due course,” he assured.
