The management of Dangote Refinery has denied reports that it has fixed the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, at N600 per litre.
This refuttal followed a report by a leading national newspaper on Tuesday that the private refinery located in Lagos, owned by Africa’s richest man, Mr Aliko Dangote, planned to sell the product to marketers at N600 per litre.
In a statement signed by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, Mr Anthony Chiejina, on Tuesday, the firm said it has yet to fix the price as claimed.
“Our attention has been drawn to headlines announcing Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol published in Punch Newspapers on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
“We would like to clarify that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not our business partner yet.
“We have never discussed the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with a hidden transcript.
“We urge the public to desist from such speculative announcements. We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders,” the statement said.
Dangote Refinery is anticipated to begin the supply of fuel this month, subject to the availability of crude oil.
At the moment, the average price of petrol at the dispense stations is between N650 per litre and N820 per litre. Only the retail stations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) limited sells at N568 per litre.
