The days of touts and fake lawyers lurking around courts in Ogun State are numbered as the chapter of the lawyers’ body has taken steps to bring sanity to the system.
The NBA Sango Ota has already constituted a committee on the issue in a bid to assist the public in sieving the wheat from the chaff.
The three-man anti-touting committee will identify and ensure the prosecution of fake lawyers in the area of the state, especially those operating at the Ifo Magistrate Court, Ifo High Court.
The group, led by Barrister A.O Daramola, has warned members of the public to be careful of those they contract to represent them at the courts.
The panel, which also comprises Morufu Ajibade and R.O Okeowo, also reminded genuine lawyers of the oath they swore, charging them to always display the highest standards in terms of dressing and conduct within and outside the court premises.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Judicial Commission has employed some judicial research officers to beef up its operations across the state.
A source at the commission’s office at Oke Musan in Abeokuta, Ogun State, informed Business Post that applications have been pasted on the notice boards of all the courts in the state.
The notice, signed by the acting secretary of the agency, O.O Adebo, asked interested lawyers to apply for the job, noting that shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
