Customers of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Limited will from Thursday, May 1, 2025, begin to pay N6 as SMS transaction alert fee.

This information was confirmed by the financial institution in a message to its customers on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

The lender explained in a notice sighted by Business Post that the rise in the SME transaction alert fee by N2 is due to the new rate charged by telecommunications operators in the country.

Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) earlier this year authorised GSM network providers to increase the prices of data, calls Short Message Service (SMS) by 50 per cent.

This new hike has since been implemented by telcos in the country.

The SMS transaction alert is an optional service offered by financial institutions in the country. It is used to quickly track financial transactions in one’s bank account. Another option is the email alert.

“Please be informed that effective Thursday, May 1 2025, the SMS transaction alert fee will increase from N4 to N6 per message.

“This adjustment is due to a recent increase in telecom rates as communicated by the telecommunication service providers.

“Kindly note that transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account.

“If you prefer not to receive transaction alerts via SMS, you can update your preferences by completing the transaction alert form on our website and sending it to [email protected],” the notice from GTBank read.
