Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Mr Monday Igbuya, has been impeached by majority of the lawmakers in the hollowed chamber.

Mr Igbuya was removed from office on Thursday morning at a plenary and was replaced immediately with Sheriff Oborevwori, a lawmaker representing Okpe constituency at the House.

It was gathered that 22 out of the 29 members of the Delta State Assembly signed the impeachment notice of the former Speaker.

Business Post learnt that the state Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Okowa, had a meeting with the lawmakers this morning in a move to stop the impeachment, but the legislators were determined to remove Mr Igbuya as their leader.

After the former Speaker was impeached, he was suspended from the House for three months.
