The need for government to formulate and implement good policies to give youths opportunities to thrive in the business world has been emphasised by business mogul, Mr Atedo Peterside.
Speaking last Tuesday in Abuja at a function held at the Presidential Villa, the former Chairman of Stanbic IBTC said only the right policies and environment can encourage youths in the country thrive in the business sector in Nigeria.
Last Tuesday, Mr Peterside was announced as the Alternate Vice-Chairman, Private Sector of the National Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council inaugurated by the Acting President, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, who is the Chairman of the council.
At the ceremony, which had other private business personalities in attendance like Mr Aliko Dangote, Mr Lazarus Angbazo, Mrs Juliet Anamah, Chief Kola Jamodu, Mr Abdulsamad Rabiu, Mr Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma among others, Mr Peterside noted that the environment to accommodate new players should be created especially for the youth who were not much present.
“Our task is to make it possible for existing players to grow and expand and to eliminate the barriers that have kept the youth from taking part in this sector that should be a vibrant sector.
“In so doing our approach has to be holistic,” he said.
“It should not be that we do business only by government intervention periodically because if you run the right environment and put the right policies in place government should not need to intervene except in rare cases,’ Mr Peterside added.
