Leading digital financial institution OPay Digital Services has denied reports circulating that it plans to shut down its operations tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

It was speculated that the financial technology (fintech) company would indefinitely close from tomorrow, causing panic among depositors.

Some customers, unable to verify the claims, quickly pressed the panic button and withdrew their funds to stay safe.

“This is to officially inform you that starting from September 1, 2026, OPay will go on a long indefinite break.

“During this period, we will not be attending to any transactions or account-related services until further notice.

“We sincerely advise all customers to remove their funds from their OPay accounts as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for being part of the OPay community,” the report claimed.

But the organisation has quelled the rumour, assuring depositors that it has no intention of quitting the business at any time.

It described the reports as false and malicious, emphasising that it is not going on break from September 1, as speculated.

“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!” the organisation said in a post on its social media platforms on Sunday.

“True OPay users know how to identify our official communications. Take a closer look at the viral post, and you’ll spot the red flags,” it further stated.

The fintech appealed to members of the public, especially social media users, to “always verify before you share. Filter the noise!”

“Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates,” the post concluded.

OPay is one of the top digital lenders in Nigeria, with a significant customer base because of its services.
