Terrahex Secures First Batch of Bitcoin Mining Machines for Nigeria

Terrahex has secured its initial fleet of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), with the first batch ready for shipment to Nigeria as the company advances plans to launch its first 9MW computing facility in December 2026.

The company, which is developing modular high-performance computing infrastructure in frontier energy markets, said it has received its second shipment of ASICs at its processing and quality assurance hub in Florida, United States.

The equipment forms part of the initial fleet for Terrahex’s first 9MW node in southern Nigeria and is undergoing inspection, testing, conditioning and certification at the US facility before being shipped to the country.

The Florida hub is supported by technical partner M3 Miner Repair, which provides repair, testing and quality assurance services. Terrahex said the process is intended to prepare the machines for operating conditions in Nigeria, including high temperatures, humidity and seasonal Harmattan dust.

The company is also preparing additional supply options as it targets more than 100MW of computing capacity in Nigeria over the next 24 months.

In support of the deployment, Terrahex has placed orders for medium-voltage and low-voltage equipment following its recent order for air-cooled 40-foot containers from Belgian manufacturer Datacubes.

Each container has shelf capacity for up to 356 miners and electrical installation capacity of up to 1,300 kilowatts. The containers will be used to house the incoming ASIC fleet at the Nigerian site.

Mr OluMayowa Ogunnusi, Founder and chief executive of Terrahex, said the company was using existing power resources as the starting point for its computing infrastructure.

“Nigeria does not need to wait for hyperscale data centre economics before it can participate in the compute economy. Terrahex is starting with power that already exists, placing modular infrastructure close to it, and proving the model through mining before moving into wider compute,” he said.

On his part, Mr Patrick J. Sweeney, Board Chair at Terrahex, said securing the initial fleet from an established US operator, alongside testing and certification before shipment, would reduce deployment risks.

“Sourcing the first fleet from an established US operator gives Terrahex the supply base, while testing and certifying every machine as fit for the deployment conditions before it ships removes risk from the build,” he said.

Adding his input, Mr Dayo Okusami, Director at Terrahex and Partner at TEMPLARS, said the company was applying international due diligence and contracting standards to its hardware supply arrangements.

Mr Toon Craenen, Founder of Datacubes, said the company’s containers were designed to operate in challenging environments, including conditions characterised by heat, humidity and dust.

Bitcoin mining will be Terrahex’s first commercial workload, while the company plans to expand into artificial intelligence computing as its infrastructure scales.
