Global business-to-business payments platform Verto has launched the Verto Card in partnership with Visa, enabling businesses to fund, spend and settle international payments across multiple currencies.

The card, which is available to customers worldwide, offers zero foreign exchange markups on eligible currencies and is designed to help African businesses reduce the costs and payment failures associated with international transactions.

Verto said the card addresses challenges faced by businesses using corporate cards tied to a single settlement currency, which can expose them to additional FX costs and rejected payments.

The Verto Card uses Visa’s commercial payment network to provide payment acceptance across 11 currencies, with indirect access to an additional 160 currencies.

Linked directly to Verto wallets, the cards can be used across 150 million merchants globally without customers having to manually transfer funds between wallets.

The supported currencies include the US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, Pound Sterling, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, New Zealand Dollar, Norwegian Krone and Swedish Krona.

The company said the product is particularly targeted at African SMEs, importers, software-as-a-service businesses and digital media buyers that need to make payments in foreign markets.

“African businesses have been underserved by the card products that exist today. They are either locked into a single currency, hit by undisclosed fees, or declined at checkout because their card runs on prepaid rails,” said Mr Ola Oyetayo, CEO and co-founder of Verto.

“This new partnership with Visa reshapes corporate cards for international businesses, moving beyond the limitations of traditional banking and prepaid card structures, and expanding what is possible for global business transactions,” he added.

The Verto Card also features security and spending controls, with sensitive card data retained within Verto’s platform and transactions authenticated through 3D Secure verification using one-time passwords or in-app confirmation.

Businesses can also set controls based on date, time and merchant category to manage how company cards are used.

Mr Shahebaz Khan, SVP and Head of Commercial & Money Movement at Visa, said the partnership would expand access to payment capabilities that allow businesses to move money more efficiently.

“The future of business payments lies in solutions that combine global connectivity with local innovation,” Mr Khan said.

Verto said it plans to add mobile wallet integration through Google Pay and launch a Cards-as-a-Service offering through its Atlas infrastructure.

The planned service will allow fintechs and financial institutions to embed card issuance into their platforms through white-label arrangements backed by Verto’s licensing and Visa’s payment network.
