CAS Sets October 8 Hearing For Senegal’s AFCON 2025 Final Appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will on Thursday, October 8, hear an appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am at the CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, and is expected to continue into the afternoon.

CAF sparked outrage in March after it declared Morocco as champions of the continental showpiece following a walkout staged by the Senegal team in the January final in Rabat, but later returned to defeat the hosting nation, 1-0.

The African football body, in the statement announcing the decision, said “the Senegal national team is declared to have forfeited the match,” a 1-0 victory in the final, “with the result being officially recorded as 3-0” in favour of Morocco.

Senegalese Football Federation has since approached the appeals body to seek redress.

In a statement, CAS said the proceedings would be held behind closed doors, with no media present, as none of the parties requested a public hearing.

Representatives of the FSF and FRMF are expected to attend the hearing in person, while CAF will be represented by its legal team.

The three-member CAS panel comprises Professor Gerald Simon of France as President, Professor Luigi Fumagalli of Italy and Professor Dr Ulrich Haas of Germany.

The proceedings will be conducted in French, in accordance with an agreement reached by the parties.

CAS said journalists intending to cover the proceedings from outside its headquarters on the day of the hearing must present valid press credentials and contact its media office ahead of the hearing.
