NNPC Says Trans Niger Pipeline Operating Optimally
By Adedapo Adesanya
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has said the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), particularly its Eastern Corridor, is operating optimally without any infractions.
The state-owned oil company is targeting crude oil production of two million barrels per day by 2027 and three million barrels per day by 2030. It also aims to raise natural gas production to 12 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030.
The TNP is one of Nigeria’s major crude oil transportation systems, spanning approximately 180 kilometres (112 miles) across the Niger Delta region.
The head, Field Operations, Eastern Corridor, NNPC Project Monitoring Office, Mr Omojevwhe Akponime, spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by a pipeline surveillance firm, Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) in Port Harcourt.
Mr Akponime stated that daily reviews by the NNPC show that lines in PINL’s area of coverage are running green.
Recounting a recent NNPC management session, he said, “There is no question for PINL. They said so because they are doing well.”
In his welcome address, PINL’s general manager, Community and Government Relations, Dr Akpos Mezeh, said host communities and stakeholders along the TNP and the Eastern Gas Network (EGN) will play a decisive role in whether Nigeria meets its oil and gas production targets for 2027 and 2030.
Mr Akpos Mezeh, General Manager, Community and Government Relations, said the industry is entering a period of renewed growth. He linked rising output in part to the stability of the pipeline networks that carry it.
He said, will depend on closer cooperation between the company, host communities and every stakeholder along the corridors.
He pointed to NNPC’s recently released audited results for 2025, with the state oil company reporting a Profit After Tax of N7.2 trillion, up 33 per cent from N5.4 trillion in 2024.
“More importantly for our discussion today, crude oil and condensate production averaged 1.77 million barrels per day in 2025, the company’s highest production level in five years,” he said.
