To enhance its board operations, growth and future direction, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has appointed five directors, with three as non-executive directors and two as independent non-executive directors.

In a statement signed by the company secretary, Uto Ukpanah, the telecommunications firm said the appointments to the board will take effect from December 1, 2026.

The appointees are Mr Ibrahim Dikko and Mr Boye Olusanya as independent non-executive directors, and Professor Fabian Ajogwu (SAN), Ms Imoni Akpofure, and Mr Lwazi Bam as non-executive directors.

Mr Dikko brings over 30 years of experience across banking, telecommunications, information and communications technology, and regulatory advisory to the board. He served as Chairman of First Securities Discount House Limited from 2002 to 2012, and was Vice President for Regulatory and Corporate Affairs at EMTS Limited (Etisalat Nigeria) from 2007 to 2017.

Mr Olusanya is a transformational business leader with over 25 years of executive leadership experience across the FMCG, Agriculture, Telecommunications, Technology, Energy, Infrastructure, and Financial Services sectors. He is currently the chief executive of FMN Holdings Limited, where he leads the strategic transformation of one of Africa’s largest food and agro-allied businesses into a vertically integrated, consumer-centric food and agro-industrial platform.

Professor Ajogwu (SAN) assisted the Securities and Exchange Commission in drafting Nigeria’s pioneering Code of Corporate Governance. He also served on the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria Committee on the National Code of Corporate Governance 2018. He founded the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria.

Ms Akpofure brings nearly three decades of leadership experience across finance, infrastructure and sustainability, with deep expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her career includes senior leadership at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), CDC Group (now British International Investment), and KINA Advisory, alongside extensive board and investment committee experience.

She currently serves on the boards of Africa50 and the Development Bank of Nigeria, bringing valuable perspectives on infrastructure investment, sustainable growth, governance, and long-term value creation.

Mr Bam joined MTN Group on June 1, 2026, as Group Chief Risk Officer. Prior to that, he served as the chief executive of Deloitte Africa and Deloitte Southern Africa from 2012 to 2022, where he oversaw the integration and expansion of Deloitte’s pan-African operations across multiple jurisdictions. During his career spanning close to three decades at Deloitte, he held several senior leadership positions, advising leading organisations on mergers and acquisitions, strategy, governance, and risk oversight.
