At least three persons have been confirmed killed in a bank robbery that occurred on Thursday evening in Offa, Kwara State.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the victims included a policeman and other persons.

It was gathered that armed robbers invaded some old and new generation banks in the town using explosives to gain access into the banking halls.

During the raid, the hoodlums allegedly went away with unspecified amount of money in different currencies.

According to reports, the bandits first approached the Offa divisional police station on entering the ancient town, killing policemen on duty among other people at the station, before raiding the commercial banks, attacking their employees and customers in the process.

They were said to have entered the town around 4:45pm and operated till about 5:40pm as they first reportedly blocked roads from both Ilorin and Osogbo ends.

The robbers reportedly escaped after the operation by going through Igosun area of the town.

The incident reportedly caused panic in the town as those living around the banks scampered to safety.

Information reaching Business Post revealed that while the robbery was on, bullets were flying around with some persons hit.

It is not certain the actual human casualty, but we confirmed that at least three persons were killed during the operation.

Last year, some banks close down their operations as a result of attacks by hoodlums in the town.
