One of the GSM service providers in Nigeria, Airtel Networks Nigeria Limited, has dropped a hint that it has the intention of getting listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

This, it said, will happen anytime soon.

Speaking at the NSE/Bloomberg CEO Round Table in Lagos on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel, Mr Segun Ogunsanya, disclosed that at the moment, every options were being considered on how to get the NSE listing.

“There are plans to look at every option. It is something we are going to consider. I am going to have some discussions with the president of the exchange on how and when we are going to do this and we will do what is best for the economy and the company at the right time,” Mr Ogunsanya said.

It would be recalled that recently, MTN Nigeria announced its plans to list its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2017.

MTN had explained that it was taking this step as part of the settlement arrangement with the Federal Government for failing to disconnect unregistered subscribers which saw its fine reduced from N1.4 trillion to N330 billion after a series of negotiations.

The two other major telecommunications companies operating in Nigeria; Globacom and Etisalat are also not yet listed on the Nigerian exchange.
