Fire Razes Balogun Market in Lagos Again

Another fire incident has erupted in a Nigerian market, this time at the Balogun market, a popular trading hub located on Lagos Island in the commercial capital city Nigeria.

The inferno started on Wednesday morning and was reported to have begun from Anambra Plaza at Martins area of the market.

The incident, according to eyewitnesses, have spread to about five structures around where it originated from and firefighters are currently battling to bring it under control.

There are have been videos showing the raging inferno on social media as traders try to salvage their goods and move them to safety.

Yesterday, a fire outbreak occurred at the popular Sabo market in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State and destroyed over 100 shops.

The fire also destroyed goods and valuables worth several millions of naira.

Last week in Lagos, a similar inferno razed a timber market in the Mushin area of Lagos.

Also, some buildings inside Balogun market were in last November gutted by fire and eventually demolished after intervention by Lagos State government.

As at the time of this report, there was no official statement about the outbreak.
