One of the leading telecommunication services providers in Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, on Wednesday joined others across the globe to mark the ‘World Teachers’ Day’.
Every October 5 is used to celebrate teachers for their huge role in the society and Airtel was not left out of it.
“As an organization, we are very passionate about education, just as we believe that teachers are the real heroes of every modern society.
“At various stages in our lives, we all have been taught by teachers, and so we have utmost respect and admiration for individuals who have chosen this noble profession of teaching. We celebrate teachers who play a very important role in providing quality education at all levels,” MD/CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya said.
The company further said it joined the world in celebrating teachers for their hard work, steadfastness, self-sacrifices and for contributing their share to nation building by helping nurture tomorrow’s leaders.
According to Mr Ogunsanya, Airtel Nigeria supports teachers through the robust implementation of their flagship CSR programme, Adopt-a-School.
The scheme provides a solid a platform for the organization to empower underprivileged kids by adopting schools in rural areas on long-term basis by rehabilitating the said schools, providing amenities and donating uniforms, writing materials and books to the children as well as providing regular, world-class training for the teachers.
Airtel Nigeria disclosed that it will commission one of its newly adopted schools, Yahaya Hamza LEA Primary School in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Some of schools already adopted by Airtel Nigeria include Oremeji Primary School, Ajegunle, Lagos State; Iyeru-Okin Primary School, Offa, Kwara State, Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, Cross River State; St. John’s Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State and Community Primary School, Amumara, Imo State.
