The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has fixed Monday, January 25, 2021, for the resumption of classes.
The institution said the resumption would be virtual as lectures would be done online to safeguard the lives of the students and reduce their exposure to COVID-19.
Following an agreement with the federal government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended their 9-month-old strike a few weeks ago and directed its members to return to work.
The federal government also said schools in the country were free to resume from January 18.
The management of UNILAG, at its senate’s emergency meeting held on January 13, said the school would resume for the 2019/2020 academic session next Monday.
In a press statement by the varsity signed by the registrar, Mr Azeez Oladejo, it was stated that academic activities for the completion of the first semester of 2019/2020 academic session for both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes should resume through the University Learning Management System (Lagonline).
It added that due to the second wave of COVID-19, all lectures, continuous assessments and examinations for the first semester would also be held virtually as students cannot be accommodated on campus at this time for safety reasons.
For the commencement of the first-semester examination, it was revealed that it will start on Monday, March 15, 2021, and end on Thursday, April 1.
It further stated that the 2019/2020 second semester would commence virtually on Monday, April 12, 2021, and end on Saturday, August 14, 2021.
The prestigious institution, however, urged parents and guardians to provide their wards with appropriate support to enable them to participate optimally in the online classes.
The school also said it would bear the full cost of data of all students through a specialised toll-free data arrangement during the 3-weeks examination period.
