Lagos, Others to Benefit from Korea, Nigeria Education Project

Increase Funding to Education

The Nigerian government, in collaboration with the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has initiated a new project to further enhance multimedia learning and teaching in six States across the country.

This was contained in the newly signed project agreement which noted an estimated cost of $10.41 million to improve education, as Lagos, Anambra, Kano, Nasarawa, Bauchi, and Edo will benefit upon the completion of the project.

The project organized by the Korean Embassy in Abuja has been flagged in a five-plan to improve the learning environment and teaching capacity building in the education sector especially in the public primary and junior secondary schools from 2021 to 2025.

The five-year project plan, fully funded by the Korean Government will provide multimedia equipment, training of teachers and education officials and guidelines for the development of basic education in Nigeria.

Speaking on this new development, the Nigerian Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu, noted that, Nigeria will effectively utilize the opportunity for the benefit of human development.

“Nigerian government will offer whatever assistance to the implementation of the project to ensure that it is a success and when the project is completed various schools will immensely contribute to the improvement of multimedia education in Nigeria,” he noted.

Signing the project on behalf of the federal government, the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEB), Mr Hamid Bobboyi, commended the initiative and also expressed the country’s readiness to effectively utilize the facility to enhance the education system in Nigeria.

Giving his comments on the project, the KOICA Country Director, Mr Woochan Chan, expressed that the project is set to improve the importation of multimedia tools in teaching and learning in the classroom.

“Nigeria and Korea Model schools should play an important role to disseminate multimedia ICT education to all Nigerian federation under the leadership of Universal Basic Education plays like a locomotive to push the idea to all part of the country,” Mr Chan explained.
