Former Vice President, Mr Alex Ekwueme, has been confirmed dead at a hospital in London, United Kingdom.
A statement issued by his family in Oko, Anambra State disclosed that the second republic VP was said to have died on Sunday night.
On October 28, 2017, over two weeks after celebrating his 85th birthday, the elder statesman was rushed a hospital in Enugu after he collapsed at his residence in the Independence Layout area of Enugu.
He was in a coma at the time he was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of Memfys Hospital in Enugu after reportedly suffering from a chest infection.
He was later taken to London this month, precisely on November 12, where he breathed his last.
According to the statement signed by the deceased’s brother, Mr Laz Ekwueme, who is also the traditional ruler of Oko in Anambra State, the former Vice President passed on around 10pm on Sunday.
“Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.
“The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday, 19th November, 2017,” the statement revealed.
