Mr Kyari Bukar has announced his resignation as Chairman of Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) in order to pursue a career in politics.
Mr Bukar joined the NESG in 2009 and actively contributed to the Science and Technology Policy Commission as well as Governance and Institutions Policy Commission. He later joined the Board of Directors and rose to become the Chairman in 2015.
“It has been an enormous privilege to have led the NESG during an important period of transformation and renewed relevance in the public policy sphere.
“I am proud to have worked with remarkable colleagues who are so committed to advancing the mandate of the NESG,” the retiring Chairman said in his letter to the board of the group.
According to a statement issued by NESG, the board thanked Mr Bukar “for his years of voluntary service and for the many accomplishments of the Group under his leadership.
“We wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Meanwhile, Mr Asue Ighodalo, First Vice Chairman of the board, has been appointed as the Acting Board Chairman.
Mr Ighodalo is the founder and Managing Partner at Banwo & Ighodalo. He is a Non-Executive Director of CardinalStone Partners Limited and has been the Chairman of the Board of Sterling Bank Plc since July 2014.
He sits on the boards of public and private companies and NGOs including the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Christopher Kolade Foundation, FATE Foundation, Lagos State Lottery Board, Main Street Technologies Limited, Union Bank (UK) Plc, Nigeria Leadership Initiative.
Mr Ighodalo has been a Non-Executive Director of Dangote Flour Mills Plc since December 10, 2015. His core areas of practice are corporate finance, capital markets, energy, natural resources, mergers and acquisitions, banking, securitization and project finance.
He has background in economics and is highly innovative and proactive and possesses an undisputed flair for brokering and assuring the smooth conclusion of the most complicated negotiations. He has been engaged in many capital markets, project finance, international finance related transactions. He was called to the bar in Nigeria in July 1985.
Mr Ighodalo is a trained Economist and Lawyer. He obtained a B.Sc. degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan in 1981, a Law degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1984 and a B.L from the Nigerian Law School in 1985.
