Managing Director of Dangote Tomato Processing Factory, Alhaji Abdulkadir Kaita, has disclosed that the company will resume operations in December 2016.
Mr Kaita explained that Dangote Tomato Processing Factory was shut down in January 2016 because there were no enough raw materials to make use of.
Speaking on Tuesday, he said efforts are presently being made to kick off production before the end of the year.
The Dangote Tomato Processing Factory is located in Kadawa Village in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
“Our target is to resume production in December because at that time, it is expected that tomato farmers would have produced enough for the company to process, Mr Kaita said.
Continuing, he said, “We have planned to recruit additional staff, who will be deployed in different sections of the company to ensure effective service delivery.”
He said the company has the capacity to process 120 tonnes of fresh tomatoes per day.
Earlier in the year, most of the tomato farms in Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Katsina and Kaduna States were affected by a pest, popularly known as “Tuta Absoluta”, (ebola), which wiped out all the tomato species in the affected states.
