A model of Songhai farming techniques is being planned by Federal Government in Akwa Ibom State and it is part of government’s strategies to boost agriculture in the country
To make this a reality, federal government is working to partner with communities in the state on how to make this a reality.
Managing Director of Cross Basin Development Authority, Mr Bassey Nkposong, explained that land owners interested in keying into the integrated farming model would be brought into it.
Speaking during a meeting with the paramount ruler and chiefs of Onna Local Government Area of the state, Mr Nkposong allayed fears that federal government would buy off the land from the affected communities.
He stressed that the scheme would bring development to the council and as well boost their economy and that of the nation at large.
“The country’s experience over the years has confirmed that dependence on oil has greatly sapped the spirit of enterprise and hard work among Nigerians.
“Experiences gathered from various parts of the world clearly indicate that agriculture was the way to go, as dependence on oil was myopic in the modern world,” Mr Nkposong disclosed.
