Meta-owned platforms, Instagram and Facebook, suffered widespread outages Tuesday, with users all over the world expressing frustration on other social media platforms, including its top rival, X, formerly known as Twitter.
On Facebook, users reported being kicked out and unable to log back in.
For Instagram, users were greeted by an error message reading, “Something went wrong. There’s an issue and the page could not be loaded.”
According to the website, DownDetector, which tracks tech outages, the issues began at around 4:00 pm (Nigerian time).
The situation as of the time of reporting remained unresolved.
Meta platforms, led by Mr Mark Zuckerberg, own Facebook and Instagram as well as WhatsApp, which was not reported to be experiencing any trouble.
However, Facebook Messenger was also flashing red on the DownDetector dashboard.
Meta reported last month that its range of apps – Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger –ended 2023 with 3.98 billion monthly active users, a more than 5 per cent rise from 2022.
The company has not issued any updates on X, formerly Twitter, but many Facebook and Instagram account holders have been flooding the platform with frustrated posts about the outrage.
