Nigeria's Unlisted Securities Market Sheds 0.78%, NASD Shares up 8.31%

The NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange dropped 0.21 per cent in the 45th trading week of the year.

This caused the market capitalisation to deplete by N2.17 billion to N1.047 trillion from the N1.050 trillion quoted in the preceding week (Week 44) just as the Unlisted Security Index (USI) closed at 2,987.52 basis points after 6.19 points evaporated from the previous week’s 2,993.71 basis points.

Last week, the unlisted securities market completed 59 deals compared with the 93 deals carried out in the previous week, indicating a 36.6 per cent slide.

However, there was an 853.6 per cent surge in the volume of equities transacted to 69.1 million units from the 7.3 million units achieved in the previous week, while the total value of transactions during the week rose by 37.3 per cent to N84.2 million from the N61.3 million recorded a week earlier.

There were five price losers and four price gainers.

The losers were led by Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc which recorded an 8.5 per cent depreciation to end at N21.50 per unit against the former value of N23.50 per unit, UBN Property Plc lost 1.8 per cent to quote at N1.67 per share versus N1.70 per share, and Afriland Properties Plc waned by 1.6 per cent to N16.80 per unit from N17.00 per unit.

Further, Acorn Petroleum Plc extended its loss by 1.0 per cent to settle at N1.97 per share against the preceding week’s N1.99 per share, and Capital Bancorp Plc depreciated by 0.9 per cent to N2.19 per unit from N2.21 per unit.

On the flip side, Newrest Airline Services and Logistics (ASL) gained 10.03 per cent to close at N28.53 per share versus N25.93 per share, Nipco Plc appreciated by 10.00 per cent to N108.35 per unit from N98.50 per unit, Geo-Fluids grew by 8.6 per cent to N3.90 per share from N3.59 per share and FrieslandCampina Wamco Nigeria Plc increased by 4.2 per cent to N45.00 per unit from N43.20 per unit.

In terms of the value of trades, Geo-Fluids Plc was on top in the week with N65.7 million, followed by UBN Property Plc with N6.7 million, FrieslandCampina recorded N4.3 million, Acorn Petroleum Plc posted N2.0 million, and CSCS Plc recorded N1.9 million.

Geo-Fluids Plc was also the most traded security by volume with 63.5 million units at the close of the week followed by UBN Property Plc which traded 4.03 million units, Acorn Petroleum Plc exchanged 1.02 million units, Capital Bancorp Plc transacted 0.285 million units, and FrieslandCampina Plc traded 0.096 million units.
