The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited was very busy last week, attracting N37.050 billion from stock investors, who pumped more funds into the ecosystem.
Business Post reports that the amount was staked in 2.866 billion shares in 33,968 deals in the five-day trading week. In the preceding week, the bourse recorded a turnover of 1.812 billion shares valued at N29.299 billion in 31,163 deals.
A breakdown showed that financial stocks traded 1.424 billion units worth N13.398 billion in 18,216 deals, contributing 49.70 per cent and 36.16 per cent to the total trading volume and value, respectively.
Conglomerates equities followed with 652.296 million units worth N4.434 billion in 4,931 deals, and consumer goods shares posted 264.359 million units valued at N12.036 billion in 10,821 deals.
Transcorp, Sterling Holdings, and Fidelity Bank were the most active, with 1.065 billion shares worth N6.525 billion in 6,801 deals, contributing 37.17 per cent and 17.61 per cent to the total trading volume and value apiece.
Omatek topped the price gainers’ table after it gained 53.33 per cent to close at 46 Kobo, NAHCO rose by 41.80 per cent to N25.95, ABC Transport improved by 39.71 per cent to 95 Kobo, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance chalked up 38.55 per cent to N1.15, and Thomas Wyatt jumped by 27.65 per cent to N2.17.
Conversely, CWG topped the losers’ chart for losing 19.80 per cent to N4.01, John Holt shed 14.38 per cent to N1.31, Prestige Assurance depreciated by 12.50 per cent to 42 Kobo, May and Baker dropped 11.82 per cent to N4.85, and Ikeja Hotel decreased by 11.76 per cent to N3.00.
At the close of business, 55 equities appreciated in price versus 32 equities in the previous week, 28 stocks depreciated in price versus 46 stocks in the previous week, and 72 shares remained unchanged versus 77 shares in the previous week.
In the week, the All-Share Index (ASI) and the market capitalisation appreciated by 3.00 per cent to close at 67,527.19 points and N36.958 trillion, respectively.
Except for the growth index, which depreciated by 1.85 per cent, and the ASeM index, which closed flat, all other indices finished higher.
