Last week, a total turnover of 1.3 billion shares worth N11.5 billion in 13,245 deals were traded by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in contrast to a total of 1.1 billion shares valued at N18.2 billion that exchanged hands the previous week in 14,372 deals.
During the week, the Financial Services industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 890.4 million shares valued at N8.1 billion traded in 7,923 deals, contributing 69.31 percent and 70.31 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
It was followed by the Services sector with 284.4 million shares worth N585.4 million in 298 deals, while the third place was occupied by the Consumer Goods industry with a turnover of 44.7 million shares worth N2.1 billion in 2,367 deals.
Trading in the top three equities; Diamond Bank Plc, Ikeja Hotel Plc, and FBN Holdings Plc, (measured by volume) accounted for 708 million shares worth N1.8 billion in 1,957 deals, contributing 55.11 percent and 15.23 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The NSE All-Share Index and market capitalization depreciated by 0.44 percent to close the week at 32,058.28 and N11.704 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished lower with the exception of the NSE Consumer Goods and NSE Industrial Goods Indices that finished higher by 0.04 percent and 1.02 percent respectively, while NSE ASeM Index closed flat.
In the week, a total of 24 equities appreciated in price, lower than 27 in the previous week, while 36 shares depreciated in price, lower than 39 of the previous week, with 109 equities remained unchanged higher than 103 equities recorded in the preceding week.
Also traded during the week were a total of 5,727 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N2.284 million executed in 11 deals compared with a total of 4,065 units valued at N17,357.55 that was transacted a week earlier in one deal.
In addition, a total of 1,034 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N980,295.60 were traded in the week in 10 deals compared with a total of 78,261 units valued at N78.378 million transacted the previous week in 61 deals.
