No fewer than 400 women in Katsina State have benefited from the Aisha Buhari Foundation’s Community-Based Cash Transfer Intervention.
Last Wednesday, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari supported about 200 petty traders with cash to grow their business.
Again on Friday, August 24, 2018, another set of 200 women were hosted in Daura, her husband’s hometown.
The Katsina event witnessed a large turnout of women who are into various small businesses like agricultural products processing and marketing, catering (including akara and masa sellers), cosmetics, tailoring and beading.
Coordinator of Aisha Buhari Foundation, Dr Kamal Muhammad, who represented Mrs Buhari at the event, said the cash transfer initiative was in line with the vision of Future Assured Programme on improving the health and wellbeing of women and children.
The transfer, he said, will lead to an improvement in household income, which will in-turn improve feeding and nutritional status, school attendance and quality of education as well as improved health status of the family, among other benefits. These benefits, he said will contribute to the attainment of related Sustainable Development Goals.
He charged the beneficiaries to expand their businesses with this cash support.
Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Mrs Badiyya Hassan Mashi, thanked the wife of the President for constantly supporting women, saying that the support will assist entrepreneurial women to expand the capital base of their micro businesses and become more self-sustaining.
She urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously.
