Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has been declared the governor-elect.

The winner of the exercise was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday afternoon in Akure, the state capital.

Announcing the results, INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, Professor Ganiu Amali, said Mr Akeredolu polled 244,842 votes during the poll to defeat his closest rival, Mr Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who managed to get 150,380.

He also said candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the exercise, Mr Olusola Oke, came third with a total of 126,889 votes.

The governor-elect is expected to take over from the incumbent Governor, Mr Olusegun Mimiko of the PDP.
