Convicted former Governor of Delta State, Mr James Ibori, has been reportedly apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Mr Ibori, who was recently released from a prison in the United Kingdom, was arrested shortly after arriving Nigeria on Saturday morning.
According to reports, Mr Ibori touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday, February 4, 2017, and was scheduled to travel to his hometown in Oghara, Delta State, but was picked by the DSS officials.
“It was pre-arranged that he should have a chat with the DSS’ Director-General, Mr Lawal Daura, upon his arrival.
“He will not be detained. His appointment was for 12:00 hrs so the operatives went to pick him up and drove him down for the meeting,” an operative of the agency told TheCable.
However, the official said the picking up of the former Governor should not be seen as an “arrest”, but invitation.
