Court Convicts Airtel, FCMB Staff over N3m Promo Fraud

An employee of First City Monument Bank, (FCMB) has been convicted by a Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Also convicted by the court were a staff of Airtel Network Limited and a student of Health Technology in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The trio were found guilty of the two-count charge of conspiracy and cheating levelled against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC secured the conviction of the three persons on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. They were involved in a N3 million fraud.

According to the anti-graft agency, the convicts are Mr Ahmed Mustapha, a staff of Airtel Network Limited, who was the Shop Manager/Supervisor in charge of Borno State; Mr Bukar Abubakar Gana, who worked with FCMB; and Mr Musa Salihu, a student of Health Technology in Maiduguri.

The EFCC said Mr Mustapha, sometimes in 2016, allegedly conspired with Gana and Salihu to divert the sum of N 3 million, which one Ali Abba was said to have won in an Airtel promo.‎

The accused persons pleaded guilty upon arraignment ‎and were convicted accordingly.

Justice Umar sentenced the convicts to two years imprisonment with a fine of N100,000 and two years in imprisonment in default of the fine for the offence of cheating.
