The Ekiti State Government has announced the approval of new projects worth N7.6 billion for the construction of roads and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the state.
This was made known during the weekly exco meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC) by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Mr Akin Omole.
According to him, the projects were driven by the state’s vision in fulfilling its roles duties and would be funded from the state account which earlier this year had a plus of over N11.1 billion.
Mr Omole disclosed that the council approved the total of N921.24 million for the construction of Ikole township roads.
He further said that the sum of N4.32 billion was also approved for the construction of the Ado/Iworoko road.
According to Mr Omole, the sum of N2.3 billion was approved for the construction of bus terminals and pedestrian walkways, drain covers, along the axis of Ijigbo road to Okeiyinmi roundabout in Ado- Ekiti.
He added that the state government gave contractors handling the projects a timeline of 10 and 12 months to complete the development.
As stated by the Commissioner, the approval for the award of contracts followed due processes and diligent vetting by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
He said the involvement of the agency was a demonstration of the commitment of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration to advance the economic and industrial revolution in the state.
These strategic road projects are set to provide an enabling environment for businesses and investments to thrive and the safety and security of lives and property.
The state government also solicited the support and understanding of residents, motorists, and commuters throughout the period of the construction works.
Mr Omole concluded his remarks by reminding the general public that obedience and submissiveness to traffic diversions and regulations would assist in ensuring the timely completion of the projects.
