Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has lamented that those who did not work for her husband’s victory have taken over his government.
Mrs Buhari made this statement in an interview with the BBC Hausa, which was conducted by Naziru Mikailu.
It was reported yesterday that the Presidency does not the UK-based media house publish the said interview on Saturday as it could be embarrassing to the government. It was also rumoured yesterday that Mr Buhari, who is away in Germany, has directed his wife to stop granting interviews.
In a report on Friday, the BBC said Mrs Buhari disclosed in the interview that she may not campaign for her in 2019 if things continue the way they are presently.
“I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again,” the President’s wife said.
She expressed worry that those that did not have the vision of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were now in charge of President Buhari’s administration.
“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position,” she reportedly said in the interview.
Mrs Buhari disclosed that the President “does not know” most of the top officials he has appointed, suggesting her husband’s government had been hijacked.
Asked if Mr President was in charge, she said, “That is left for the people to decide.”
She also said “few people” were behind presidential appointments.
“The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years,” the President’s wife was quoted to have said in the interview to be aired in full tomorrow.
When asked to name those who had hijacked the government, Mrs Buhari said, “You will know them if you watch television.”
According to her, one of the major achievements of her husband in his almost two years in office is the relative peace restored in the north east.
“No-one is complaining about being attacked in their own homes. Thankfully everyone can walk around freely, go to places of worship, etc. Even kids in Maiduguri have returned to schools,” Mrs Buhari said.
