All unauthorised private and corporate items placed on electric poles belonging to Ikeja Electric Plc must be removed with immediate effect, the energy distribution firm has directed.

In a statement on Friday, the electricity distribution company said these items pose a serious risk to consumers and the environment.

It disclosed that its technicians would commence the removal of such assets from its poles and possibly explore the prosecution of offenders.

“Our attention has been drawn to the flagrant violation and disregard for safety around our electricity poles by individuals and some corporate organisations, for private and commercial use.

“It is imperative to state that these acts not only portend great danger to the perpetrators and members of the public but also inhibit our operations which ultimately affect the quality of service to our esteemed customers.

“To this end, our team of technicians will commence the removal of unauthorised assets on our poles across the six business units as well as explore available extant laws guiding the use of these facilities, with a bid to prosecute errant offenders to serve as a deterrent to others.

“This information is coming to you as part of our proactive approach for identifying risk and mitigating it, in line with our corporate policy of adhering to world-class safety and regulatory standards for the well-being of customers and staff alike,” the statement from the organisation said.
