The Kaduna State Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) says its dispute with the state government over tax arrears of N600 million has been resolved.
Last Friday, the Kaduna Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) sealed the distribution company’s headquarters over the alleged unpaid taxes.
According to the chairman of KADIRS, Mr Jerry Adams, the utility company was sealed after it obtained a court order.
Shortly after, the energy firm announced the disconnection of power supply to the Government House and other state facilities over a N2.9 billion debt.
However, in a statement, KAEDCO said the rift had been resolved after a series of meetings involving high-ranking officials from the company and the state government.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, Kaduna Electric is committed to continuing to pay its taxes and other state levies and dues as appropriate,” the DisCo said.
“Similarly, the Kaduna State Government has pledged to settle the electricity bills of its ministries, departments, and agencies as and when due,” it added.
The Managing Director of Kaduna Electric, Mr Umar Abubakar Hashidu, thanked the state governor, Mr Uba Sani; the Managing Director of Kaduna State Power Supply Company; Mr Idris Aminu Idris; Mr Adams; and other government officials for their efforts in resolving the issues.
He also commended the efforts of the Board Chairman, Mr Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, and the board directors of Kaduna Electric for their support in resolving the impasse.
