The Governor of Plateau State, Mr Caleb Mutfwang, has condemned the recent attacks in Mangu Local Government Area of the state where over 30 persons were reportedly killed and properties destroyed.
The Governor, in a press statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Gyang Bere, expressed concerns about the escalating security challenges that destroyed homes and livelihoods by suspected hoodlums.
Governor Mutfwang also extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, affected communities, and those injured in the unfortunate incidents, urging them to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities for swift intervention.
The role of security agencies in restoring calm and normalcy to the affected areas was commended by the Governor as he called for continued collaboration between security agencies and the government to provide maximum protection to all citizens.
He warned against further security breaches in the affected areas, asserting that the government will not tolerate any further breakdown of law and order in any part of the state, and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to guarantee absolute peace across the state.
Meanwhile, an inter-religious council meeting among leaders of religious organisations as well as community leaders is ongoing in Mangu as part of efforts to address the lingering security breaches in the local government area.
Reports say the assailants also destroyed houses and property in the attack.
Sources indicated that aside from the attacks at Sabon-Gari and Mangu, attackers unleashed terror on the other communities. Two other communities – Kinat and Mairana, which are on the borders of Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government areas were also attacked the same night.
