BBOG campaigners

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Members of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaign were on Monday prevented from entering the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The protesters had planned to have an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari today over the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram members in April 2014 in Borno State.

Recently, the terrorists group released a video showing some girls they claimed were the abducted Chibok girls.

This video sparked another round of controversies and inspired the campaigners to intensify their call for the release of the girls. They called on President Buhari to ensure the girls are rescued and reunited with their parents.

However, their plan to see Mr President on Monday was aborted when security operatives stopped them as they approached the Villa.

One of the leaders of the BBOG group, Oby Ezekwesili, engaged the police, saying her group must be allowed to see the President at the Villa. Her rants never moved the serious-looking mobile police officers.

This is the second time the group would be denied audience with the President.
