The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Joe Ajaero, has been invited by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to answer why his name was mentioned in an allegation bordering on cybercrime, terrorism financing, and other related offences.
A letter of invitation was sent to the labour leader on Monday, August 19, 2024, and he is required to appear for questioning on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
He was warned to honour the summoning or risk being declared wanted, according to a part of the invitation sighted by Business Post.
Recall that a few days ago, security officials raided the headquarters of the NLC in Abuja, with some items taken away.
This action was condemned by several people, including the NLC, which later threatened to embark on an industrial action if the security officials and the Nigerian government failed to tender an apology.
The police claimed the union’s headquarters was stormed for the arrest of a suspect believed to be plotting to distabilise the country and sponsoring protests, especially the End Bad Governance protests held between August 1 and 10, 2024.
In the letter to Mr Ajaero yesterday, signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Intelligence Response Team, ACP Adamu Muazu, the NLC president was asked to be at a police station in Abuja at 10 a.m..
“This office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime in which you have been implicated.
“You are therefore required to report to the undersigned for an interview on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. prompt, at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the team leader on telephone number 08035179870, in connection with the above investigation.
“Be informed that if you fail to honour this letter, this office will have no choice but to issue a warrant for your arrest,” the letter said.
