A former Military Governor of the old Bendel State, Mr Samuel Ogbemudia, has been reported dead.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the former Governor died at a private hospital in Lagos.

Mr Ogbemudia governed the defunct Mid-Western State, which was later renamed Bendel State, between 1967 and 1975 as a military administrator.

In 1983, Mr Ogbemudia was elected civilian governor of Bendel State, but his tenure was cut short by the military coup of December 1983, led by current President Muhammadu Buhari.

Bendel State is the present Edo and Delta States.

Until his demise, Mr Ogbemudia, born on September 17, 1932, was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, son of the deceased, Sam Ogbemudia (Junior), who confirmed the death of his father to NAN, said he would miss his father.
