Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has been asked to appear before the Senate Committee on Works to explain why the Bodo/Bonny Road, linking the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas complex was yet to be completed.
The upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly also wants to know why the Federal Government has not partnered with the gas company to fix the road.
Senator George Sekibo called attention of his colleagues to the deplorable state of the road and asked for an intervention.
Other contributors, Senator Magnus Abe, Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu and Senator James Manager, emphasised the importance of the road to the economy of the nation.
Senate President, Mr Bukola Saraki, who presided over plenary on Wednesday, described the motion as very “important”, submitting that “we must see to the completion” of the road, which has been abandoned by contractors.
He directed the Senate Committee on Works to carry out an independent comprehensive evaluation of the Bodo/Bonny Road project and brief the Senate within four weeks.
