President Muhammadu Buhari has been invited to Washington DC by President of the United States, Mr Donald Trump.
The two leaders spoke on Monday afternoon on telephone.
It was gathered that the US President initiated the call to Mr Buhari, who is holidaying in London since January 19, 2017.
Mr Trump, during the phone call, commended President Buhari for “the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls” as well as the “strides being taken by the Nigerian military” to tackle terrorism in the West African country.
The American President “discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment” and assured Mr Buhari of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism.
Before ending the call, which is his first to any African leader since becoming the US President, Mr Trump expressed his willingness to host President Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date.
