Corporate organisations have been urged to step-up their corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects for the benefit of the people.
This call was made by the Rivers State Governor, Mr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, during a courtesy visit by MTN Foundation at Government House, Port Harcourt last Thursday.
The Governor said that small scale projects by high-profile corporate organisations were a disservice to the people, calling on corporate organisations to liaise with the state government for the initiation and execution of projects.
He commended MTN Foundation for introducing Market Doctor, which will assist traders to access quality medicare.
He said: “The foundation should liaise with the State Government before siting projects. That way government can suggest areas of intervention.
“If government is aware of interventions, it will monitor projects in order to avoid theft and vandalism by criminal elements,” the Governor said.
Mr Wike suggested that the MTN Foundation should execute a mega project worth N2 billion in Rivers State in line with her profit margin in the state.
Earlier, Director of MTN Foundation, Mr Reginald Chukwuemeka Okeya said that the foundation has flagged off the Market Doctor Programme in five markets across the state.
He said that the project is a medical outreach to market women who otherwise wouldn’t access quality healthcare.
He urged officials of the Rivers State Government to liaise with the MTN Foundation to attract more projects to the state.
The Director of MTN Foundation lauded Governor Wike for his outstanding projects delivery, saying that the group is happy to partner with the state.
