The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has maintained that it would not postpone the Saturday, November 26, 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, stressing that there was no justification for such.
It said it was ready for the election and that all necessary steps had been taken to have peaceful election.
Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated this in an interview with Punch.
Mr Oyekanmi was asked to respond to the fresh demand for the shifting of the election by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the PDP, asking that the election be shifted to enable it screens its agents.
Mr Makarfi was said to have alleged that the names of agents of the PDP submitted to the commission for the election were from the Senator Ali Modu Sherif faction.
While justifying why the election would not be shifted, Mr Oyekanmi said, “INEC will not postpone the Ondo Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday November 26.
“The Commission is ready and all the necessary materials have been deployed.
“There is no justifiable reason to shift the election.”
