President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian military have been commended for the successes recorded in the fight against terrorism in the country.
Their determination to tackle the menace led to the drop in the Global Terrorism Index.
Reacting to this, the National Committee of Yoruba Youth and the coalition of Civil Society Against Terrorism in Nigeria said it is delighted that despite the antics of the various insurgent groups, particularly the Boko Haram, to further perpetrate violence against innocent Nigerians, particularly in the North East region, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has proven to be up to the task of fulfilling its constitutional obligations to the people by ensuring the protection of lives and properties of citizens, and most especially the territorial integrity of ther country, which had once be nearly totally overridden by the terrorist group.
Recently, the British Broadcasting Corporations (BBC) released a report, which stated that the number of terror related deaths around the world fell for a second year in 2016, according to the Global Terrorism Index.
The report further indicated that the biggest drop was recorded in Nigeria where there’s been an 80 percent reduction in the number of death, occasioned by terrorist activities in the country.
In a statement issued yesterday in Ibadan, Oyo State, and signed by its Convener and Secretary, Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi and John Atani respectively, the group said, “We are proud of the untiring resolve, of President Buhari towards redeeming the reputation of the country, as a result of the positive international ratings, being recorded in the war against terrorism in Nigeria.
“We must particularly give kudos, to the men and officers of the Nigerian Army, for this unprecedented feat, being achieved by the Leadership of the Nigerian Army, under General Tukur Buratai, as showcased by this latest global report.”
“We as Nigerians are very pleased with the achievements that this administration, has made so far in the war against terrorism, particularly in its ability to hugely reduce the number of our citizens, being killed by terrorists, as indicated, by this report.
“It is a clear indication that the Nigerian Army, has continued to do the best, in ensuring, that terrorism becomes a thing of the past, in our country,” the statement added.
While urging the government to sustain the massive gains already made in the war against terrorism in the country, the group also called on Nigerians to reciprocate this laudable efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Army, by supporting the activities of the army aimed at curbing the activities of the insurgent, criminal and separatist organisations in every parts of the country where its operations are focused on.
The groups also urged the Federal government to sustain the improvement in the welfare packages for men and officers of the military, who have continued to show their patriotic determination to bringing an end to terrorism in the country.
