Auditors with global standards

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

The Lagos State Government has charged auditors on its payroll to regularly upgrade their knowledge to enable them to meet up with global standards.

This charge was given by the Acting Auditor-General of Lagos State, Mr Moshood Adewale Adewuyi, at a two-day training programme on financial statement audit software for auditors.

At the training held at the Training Centre of the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Mr Adewuyi said the auditors must learn the best financial audit practices.

He explained that this was why the state government organised the workshop to broaden the participants’ knowledge, especially on how to carry out much of their audit work in the office and get corroborative evidence of their assignments when they go out to the field.

While acknowledging that the audit software has five statements, Mr Adewuyi stated that only three statements have so far been incorporated into the programme: Statement of Performance, Statement of Position and Statement of Cash Flow.

He urged the auditors to acquire as much knowledge as they can during the programme, reiterating that the Office is committed to exposing them to more advanced audit training in order to meet up with global standards.

Speaking further, Mr Adewuyi revealed that the Financial Statement Audit Software would provide the platform for the Auditors to review financial statement reports through analysis of trial and reproduction of reports for the purpose of re-validation and identification of irregularities for appropriate reconciliation.
