Copa América 2025 Preview: Will Argentina or Brazil Steal the Spotlight?
Get ready for Copa América 2025! Will Argentina or Brazil dominate? In this exciting preview, dive into the top storylines, from Messi’s legacy to Brazil’s young stars.
Copa América: Argentina vs. Brazil Showdown
The Copa América 2025 is just around the corner, and the buzz is electric. Fans tracking live scores, games today know this tournament delivers non-stop drama as South America’s premier competition becomes a stage where legends are forged, rivalries explode, and underdogs defy expectations. This year, the spotlight burns brightest on the eternal clash of titans: Argentina and Brazil. With Messi’s legacy on the line and Brazil’s new generation hungry to reclaim dominance, every match promises seismic moments. Will Argentina defend their crown, or will Brazil’s young guns usher in a new era? Let’s dive into the must-watch storylines as these footballing giants collide for continental supremacy.
Argentina’s Quest to Cement a Dynasty
Argentina, the reigning Copa América and World Cup champions, are riding a wave of dominance. They’ve transformed into a juggernaut under Lionel Scaloni’s steady hand, blending grit with flair. Their 2024 Copa América triumph-capping a 1-0 victory over Colombia-marked their record 16th title, and they’re hungry for more. But 2025 could be a defining moment for this squad.
The biggest storyline? Lionel Messi. At 37, this might be his final Copa América, and every match feels like a chapter in his legendary saga. Despite a recent injury sidelining him for World Cup qualifiers, Messi’s magic remains undeniable. Can he lead Argentina to another title and solidify his case as the greatest ever? Beyond Messi, young stars like JuliánÁlvarez and EnzoFernández are stepping up, proving this team isn’t just about one man. Yet, with Ángel Di María retiring from international play post-2024, the pressure is on to maintain their winning culture.
Brazil’s Redemption Arc
With nine Copa América titles, Brazil is itching to reclaim its throne. The Seleção have had a rocky road since their 2019 triumph, stumbling in the 2021 final against Argentina and struggling in recent World Cup qualifiers. Their 4-1 thrashing by Argentina in March 2025 qualifiers stung, exposing tactical gaps and a lack of cohesion. But under coach Dorival Junior, there’s a sense of renewal.
The spotlight is on Brazil’s young guns. ViníciusJúnior, fresh off a stellar season with Real Madrid, is poised to be the main man. At 24, he’s yet to score against Argentina, and a breakthrough could cement his status as Brazil’s next icon. Then there’s Endrick, the 18-year-old phenom already turning heads at Real Madrid. His flair and fearlessness could make him a breakout star. The question is whether Brazil can channel this talent into a cohesive unit or if their inconsistencies will haunt them again.
The Rivalry That Defines South America
Argentina vs. Brazil is more than a game-it’s a cultural clash. Their 115th meeting in March 2025 saw Argentina dominate 4-1, but Brazil’s last win over their rivals came in the 2019 Copa América semifinals. This rivalry fuels both teams, and a potential final matchup would be a blockbuster. Expect fiery tackles, verbal jabs (remember Raphinha’s bold “beating” claim?), and moments of brilliance. The Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires, with its 84,567 capacity, could host a defining chapter if these two meet.
Copa América Dark Horses: Teams Ready to Shock the Tournament
While Argentina and Brazil grab headlines, other narratives could steal the show:
- Uruguay’s Dark Horse Run: Under Marcelo Bielsa, Uruguay’s young core-led by Darwin Núñez and Federico Valverde-has upset giants like Argentina and Brazil in qualifiers. Couldtheyspoiltheparty?
- Colombia’s Unbeaten Streak: Colombia’s 28-game unbeaten run ended in 2024, but James Rodríguez’s playmaking makes them dangerous.
- The U.S. as Host: Hosting its second Copa América, the U.S. faces pressure to deliver on and off the pitch after 2024’s field quality complaints.
Who Will Steal the Show?
Argentina enters as favourites, with their World Cup-winning depth and experience giving them a clear edge. While yesterday soccer scores fade from memory, this tournament will write new history—Brazil’s raw talent could rewrite the script if their young stars like Vinícius and Rodrygo find their rhythm. The 2025 Copa América will likely hinge on iconic moments: Messi’s timeless genius, a moment of magic from Brazil’s flair players, or perhaps an underdog rising to steal the spotlight. Catch every chapter unfold on FOX, Univision, or Fanatiz when the action kicks off in June 2025 across iconic U.S. stadiums.
Whether it’s Argentina building a dynasty or Brazil reclaiming glory, this tournament promises drama, passion, and unforgettable soccer.

Roberto De Zerbi Joins Tottenham as New Head Coach
By Dipo Olowookere
Italian professional manager and former player, Roberto De Zerbi, has returned to England to serve as the new Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur’s football team.
He will fight to ensure the London team does not play in the Championship next season, as the team currently sits one point from relegation.
The former Brighton manager is taking over from Igor Tudor, who parted ways with Tottenham a few days ago.
In a statement, Spurs said the appointment of De Zerbi is subject to a work permit.
The club’s Sporting Director, Mr Johan Lange, said, “Roberto was our number one target for the summer and we are very pleased to be able to bring him in now.
“He is one of the most creative and forward-thinking coaches in world football, and brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level, including in the Premier League.”
Reacting to his choice for the job, De Zerbi said, “I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world.
“In all my discussions with the club’s leadership, their ambition for the future has been clear – to build a team capable of reaching great achievements, and to do that playing a style of football that excites and inspires our supporters. I am here because I believe in that ambition and have signed a long-term contract to give everything to deliver it.
“Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be the complete focus until the final whistle of the last game of the season. I’m looking forward to getting out on the training pitch and working with these players to achieve that.”
De Zerbi earned almost 300 appearances in his playing career across 15 years. He began coaching in his native Italy and in June 2018, joined Serie A side Sassuolo, earning recognition for his exciting, attack-minded and possession-based approach.
He took charge of Shakhtar Donetsk in May 2021, leading them to the UEFA Champions League group stage and the Ukrainian Super Cup – his first piece of silverware as a coach.
Heading to East Sussex to join Brighton & Hove Albion in September 2022, De Zerbi helped secure the Seagulls’ highest-ever Premier League finish in his debut season, earning European qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
In his most recent role at Marseille, the Ligue 1 side finished as runners-up in 2024/25, earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League.
