By Dula Ganyo Mabin

Football, one of the frontline sports, has over the years united football lovers all over the world for decades, at least temporarily.

When it comes to the round leather game, people in developing and developed countries will forget their sorrows and frustrations and support their favourite teams. This is good for humanity.

Recently, some refugees from Cameroon invaded the Adagon Community in Ogoja, Cross River State. At the end of the day, about six persons were allegedly injured.

It was gathered that the refugees arrived in Ogoja and were having fun at a beer parlour when an argument ensured on who would win the match between Nigeria and the Ivorian football team at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.

It was gathered that the argument degenerated into violence and at the end of the day, six persons from both sides of the warring factions were critically injured.

It took the prompt intervention of the police in Ogoja to calm the restive situations.

On Sunday, February 11, 2024, Cote d’Ivoire defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the AFCON final in Abidjan to become the continent’s champions.
