Nigerian football enthusiasts count on search engines to get the answers they require, this is more evident as Google trends have revealed football-related searches as top queries on Google over the past 15 years.
The search tool revealed that football clubs, in the following order: Man U, Real Madrid, Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, Man City, FC Barcelona, Liverpool FC and AC Milan have taken the top spots in Google Searches from netizens in Nigeria over the past decade and a half.
The report also showed habitual search of celebrities and personalities in the entertainment industry as some of the most searched individuals in Nigeria over the period under review.
This majorly included movie stars like Mercy Johnson, Odunlade Adekola, Funke Akindele, Ini Edo, Adam A Zango, Iyabo Ojo, Rita Dominic, Angela Okorie, Juliet Ibrahim, and Adunni Ade.
Still on searches over the entertainment industry, music stars in the following order topped the chart: Burna Boy, Omah Lay, Adekunle Gold, Tope Alabi, Small Doctor, Reekado Banks, Banky W, Frank Edward, 2Face Idibia and Yinka Ayefele.
Meanwhile, the likes of Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Kanye West and Celine Dion ranked as the most searched foreign celebrities on Google within the period.
The interests of Nigerians on Google search are also reflected in the top searched questions over the past decade which included in the ranking order: What is love? How to make money online? What is a computer? How much is the dollar to naira? How to make love? What is sex? What is biology? How to write an application letter? What is a noun? and How to check BVN?.
The search tool also ranked the most searched recipe queried by Nigerians over the period under review. The following recipes appeared as the top five searched for Pornstar martini cocktail recipe, Cake recipe, Pancake recipe, Meat pie recipe, and Puff puff recipe.
The report showed that Google processes more than 40,000 search queries every second which accounts for more than a billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide.
