Facebook has announced winners of the 2021 Facebook Community Accelerator Programme (CAP), which highlighted nine Nigerian Facebook community leaders, among others who participated in the scheme.
The announcement of the CAP winners featured 13 Facebook community leaders from Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya who are set to receive training, mentorship and up to $50,000 in funds to invest in an initiative that extends their community’s positive impact.
The 13 winners emerged out of over 13,000 applicants who entered the competition.
The Community Accelerator is part of Facebook’s Community Leadership Programme, set up to help leaders harness the power of their community to turn impactful ideas into action.
The programme is also pointed at leaders to set them towards the learning of how to harness the power of their community to turn impactful ideas into action.
This year’s cohort features a diverse spectrum of communities engaged in interesting social impact activities ranging from combating child sexual abuse to helping moms and sharing stories of ordinary and extraordinary Nigerians from around the world.
This was made known in the announcement of the Partner Management Lead of the Middle East and Africa Community Partnerships at Facebook, Mr Kiran Yoliswa, who noted that the winners have been helping to resolve social challenges, empowering their audiences with knowledge while connecting with others that share their interests or passion for a cause.
He added that Facebook is committed to helping people realise their full potential through initiatives like this and that it is expected of these community leaders to use the Facebook platform to drive change and provide support and encouragement for thousands of people.
Nigerians among the winners of the Facebook community Accelerator includes Ms Achimugu Elizabeth from Protect the child foundation, Ms Godwin Juliet, leader of Naija graphic designers, Ms Izevbokun Osamakue, representing mothers, kids and more, Ms Michael Louisa from the natural hair babes community, and Mr Nworah Martin, leader of tales of Nigerian.
Other Nigerian winners include Mr Ogudoro Peter at Nigerian teachers community, Mr Olisa Enoch from the community, prepare for JAMB UTME, Mr Philip Udeochu, from Portfolio 9 Digital Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Platform (DEEP), and Ms Urhefe Ofejiro from Naija Nurses Forum
Other community leaders include Mr Ramuada Tshililo, South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum from South Africa, Ms Splinters Lucretia, The Official Ocean View/Slangkop Group from South Africa, Ms Wala Amakove, Wanderlust Diaries Ltd from Kenya and Mr Mwaniki Sam, Teachers’ Notice Board Kenya, also from Kenya.
